Tonight I felt that this blog lacks a good light painting video. So I watched a lot and found some interesting ones (I haven’t watched any for a long time). But for the moment, my fav is still the original “Pikapika the movie – Go ! Go ! Pikapika”.

A Pikapika is an abstract animation film made with flashlights. A series of photographs using long exposures are edited together to make them appear as an animation (stop-motion). You can find many informations about this technique on Pikapika blog.

The making-of of this movie is also available on Youtube.

You’ve got paper ? You’ve got a shredding machine (scissors can work too, but it will be a little longer…). You can make a video !

This is how this inspiring video of the British band Oi Va Voi has been made : Every third frame of the footage was printed, shredded and shot three times blended with adjacent frames by different stripes configuration. A work done by Katarzyna Kijek and Przemysław Adamski.

There are a only few shots around about the making-of of this video because “the process itself was pretty boring so it didn’t come to our minds to document it” Katarzyna said. Boring ? I can believe it ! But the result is far from boring. A real pleasure for us.

David Wilson, a London based animator, has directed this videoclip for the song “We Got Time” of Moray McLaren. A very contemplative clip that has been made just taking advantage of the way film and persistence of vision works No CG, no compositing animation loops onto footage.

On David website, you can download a hi-res version of the clip, or have a look at the making-of.

I was really impressed by the “Monsters vs Aliens” 3D projection. I remember when I was young my first 3D experiences with red and blue 3d glasses, when it was even difficult just to see the film. Now, this is a completely new experience, and I loved it.

So, I can try to imagine what this man see, with such a technology but projected on the whole room (in fact, 3 walls and the floor).

In fact, this video is very frustrating, because from the outside, we only see a $600.000 worth projection system showing blurred images. But I’m sure, seeing the behavior of the guy, that it must be mind-blowing.

I’ll keep connected with IDEO Labs to know when I’ll be able to give it a try ;-)

For his 26 birthday in November 2007, Christoph Rehage started the trip of his life : walking from Beijing to his hometown in Germany.

He was not able to finish his trip, but he walks for a year, more than 4.600 kms across China, and he came back with this beautiful video and a lot of stories to tell.

Maybe one day, he’ll finish this trip.

The musical score is by The Kingpins (L’aventurier) and Zhu Fengbo (Olive Tree)

R.U.S.E. is a wargame announced for 2009 (sorry nothing more precise for the moment) by Ubisoft. The guys at Ubisoft have released this very exciting trailer with a touch screen table. Unfortunately, the table is a fake. Microsoft Surface is still too expensive, they have done it in wood, as you can see in this time-lapse video of the building of the scenery.

Tilt shifting technique can give some kind of extraordinary results, in particular when it is done by a master like Keith Loutit, a Sydney based photographer.

All the images you see in this helicopter rescue mission video are REAL. No models or digital additions. This is just reality seen through the eyes of Keith.

And it’s beautiful.
